607,000 animals died in shelters across the United States in 2024. Nearly 20% of those deaths occurred in Texas shelters.

We will gather in quiet solidarity for shelter pets across the country. Whether you’re sitting with us in Marfa or joining from afar, this act is a moment of reflection—for the dogs & cats still waiting in shelters, for the ones we’ve saved, and for those we couldn’t reach in time. Together, we’ll sit for shelter pets in the communities that need us most.

We’re inviting you to sit with purpose. Just like a walkathon, we’re asking participants to seek out sponsors for their sit—friends, family, coworkers, or anyone who wants to back your commitment to saving lives in a specific West Texas community. Whether it’s for the dogs of Van Horn, the cats of Marfa, or the pups holding on in Presidio—your sit can be a lifeline. You don’t need to live here to make an impact—you just need to care.
